The purpose of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme is to provide students with information technology knowledge to produce graduates who are enabled to work in today's challenging environments.
The programme is designed in the context of the current organisational and societal problems that need programming solutions. Students that emerge from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme do so with programming skills. Programming enhances the problem-solving skills of students and enables them to be solution oriented.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme is designed to give students the necessary knowledge to design software, create software, or help improve software specifications. It is aimed towards providing learning progression in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Programming and Cybersecurity throughout the student’s learning journey. In the working environment, students will be exposed to working with big data.

Admission Requirements
The admission requirement for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology is as follows: The minimum entry requirement is the National Senior Certificate or the National Certificate Vocational with appropriate subject combinations and levels of achievement as defined in the Minister’s policies: Minimum Admission Requirements for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree Programmes Requiring a National Senior Certificate, Government Gazette, Vol 751, No 32131 of 11 July 2008 and Minimum Admission Requirements for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree Programmes requiring a National Certificate (Vocational), published in the Government Gazette, Vol. 533, No. 32743, November 2009.
To be considered for admission to MANCOSA’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme, any one of the following qualifications may apply and the minimum requirement:
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an NQF Level 4 National Certificate (Vocational) – (NCV) with an endorsement for entry into a Higher Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor’s study programme or
General Education Diploma (GED) or
An equivalent accredited NQF level 4 (120 credits) qualification or
A National Vocational Certificate level 4 qualification with a 50% pass in English or
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and
To have passed Mathematics and one Science subject
No more than 10% of a cohort will be admitted into the programme based on RPL.
Selections Criteria
For students to be eligible for the programme, they are required to meet the pre-requisites in the admission criteria. The selection criteria for this programme are in accordance with the MANCOSA Admissions and Selections Policy.
Selection criteria for study at MANCOSA include one or more of the following:
Achievement of relevant higher education qualifications at the required NQF level;
Personal interviews;
Biographical information;
Portfolio of evidence;
Recognition of prior learning (RPL);
South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) or Universities’ South Africa (USA) certification of equivalence; and
Language proficiency test.
Students will be selected to meet the minimum admission requirements for Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme. The subject Mathematics Literacy and Technical Mathematics will not be considered as part of the minimum admission requirements
