Library Manager : Durban

Core functions:

  • Promote the role of the library and the range of resources students can access and to support inquiry and develop information literacy across all year levels and all curriculum areas.
  • Provide strategic direction to the library staff, to motivate and monitor staff performance, to make strategic decisions that will positively impact the organisation.
  • Be knowledgeable of library services and be able to answer and record reference questions.
  • Maintain open membership and communication with professional organizations necessary to the success and advancement of services provided in the library.
  • Establish and monitor day-to-day systems and workflows in library by ensuring all material are catalogues in accordance to the relevant standards.
  • Manage an updated record keeping of statistics and usage records and be responsible for the evaluation of library standards and services.
  • Undertake budget tasks by managing and monitoring the library budget in accordance with the colleges best practice.
  • Maintaining records of all purchases and requisitions.
  • Prepare and present regular reports that focus on the library’s support for teaching and learning, highlighting significant development areas and identifying future needs.
  • Ensuring staff comply with the rules set out by the institution and management.
  • Provide high quality resources, including e-resources, that meet the reading and information needs of the college.
  • Ensure the Library has a balanced, up-to-date collection of print and online resources that meet users’ needs.

Qualification/s:

A relevant Library Science Degree.

Experience and skills:

  • 3 – 4 years library work experience and/or training
  • 6 months – 1 years library managerial experience

Skills and competencies:

  • Library Software experience
  • Financial Management – Departmental Budget
  • Communication Skills -Must be able to speak confidently and demonstrate professionalism
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Internet and Email) and database application skills
  • Possess a high level of ethics and confidentiality

Additional requirements:

  • Must be able to work during weekends/evenings on rotation as and when requested.
